I am so grateful we are finally in a place where “trauma” and being “trauma informed” is something most of us have heard about. Once we understand our trauma, we can begin to recognize the limiting beliefs we have about ourselves and the world as well as our patterns and programs.
This is still a relatively new field where we are learning more all the time. In my work, viewing “why” we might have certain thoughts or behaviors brings new light and hope to so many. Understanding is the first step… but what do we do about it?
There are many ways to resolve trauma, and there is a lot out there now, from MAP and STT, to EMDR, to TRE and other somatic release, to hypnotherapy, to Soul Retrieval. I find that a combination of all of them is most helpful.
Here is something I hear often in my sessions:
“I don’t have any trauma. I was clothed, sheltered, and educated. My parents didn’t beat me. Nothing traumatic every happened to me.”…..
Yet, the trauma responses are there in plain sight. It’s important to understand that while we have “Big T” traumas like sexual and physical assault, war and combat, or loss of a loved one, it’s the “Little t” traumas that often have an even greater impact. These are things like emotional neglect or withdrawal, “walking on eggshells,” emotional violence, bullying, constant and higher expectations of perfection that we can never reach, never feeling good enough, religious indoctrination, “past-life” trauma, and the one I see quite often, generational trauma (Big T traumas in our ancestral lineage).
It's important to remember that it is our response to a trauma that creates the faulty or default programs and patterns that keep us in depression, anxiety, fear, hopelessness, and isolation or loneliness. What I see all traumas have in common is a feeling of disempowerment. This leads to patterns like fixing/rescuing/saving, people pleasing, keeping ourselves small, feeling stuck and stagnant, scarcity and lack, mistrust of ourselves/others/the world, sarcasm and cynicism, and disconnection from ourselves, our bodies, and Source Creator. Often, shame, guilt, fear, and anger are running the show.
It is true, the body does keep the score. So even when we have resolved a trauma on energetic and spiritual levels, the body is the last to let go. This is why we often see chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and dis-ease.
Trauma needs resolution on all levels. We need to regain a sense of empowerment and feel safe – to get out of fight/flight/freeze/fawn and back to our regulated state of homeostasis.
Many people are afraid to face their trauma, and it is very common to block things out completely. It’s important to know that we do not have to remember our trauma or relive it to resolve it.
We are all at different places when it comes to resolving our trauma, and I have yet to meet anyone that doesn’t have some form of trauma to resolve. Turning toward our trauma is the only way through it, but it does not have to be earth-shattering. I have very gentle and efficient ways to resolve trauma that will simultaneously create a felt sense of safety and empowerment.
It is true – “our trauma creates our drama.” Let’s all work together to create a drama-free, trauma-free life and do what we came here to do – Enjoy Life!
It’s all possible. It takes a village. And it is the best thing we can do for ourselves and for the world – for All Our Relations, Everywhere.
